He graduated from the State University of New York in Syracuse with a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science and from Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, Ohio with a Master of Divinity degree. After interning in Washington D.C. and Denver, Pastor Scott served three calls over sixteen years in Atlanta. He has been a youth director, associate pastor, new church planter, and senior pastor, and now serves as pastor of Holy Cross. He was one of the writers of the 2010 movie [Get Low](http://www.sonyclassics.com/getlow/), which starred Robert Duvall, Sissy Spacek and Bill Murray. Pastor Scott and his wife Beth have two children, a cat, and a seventy-pound lap dog named Chipper Jones. He is also the Artistic Director of The Detroit Handbell Ensemble, and is a sought-after clinician and conductor for local and national events. Recently he served on both the National Board of Directors for the Handbell Musicians of America and their local Area 5 Board of Directors.  For the past 18 years, Kyle has served as Director of Worship and Music in United Methodist congregations throughout southeast Michigan including Chelsea First UMC, Nardin Park UMC and Royal Oak First UMC. Under his baton with the Detroit Handbell Ensemble, he helped conduct the opening concert of the 2018 Handbell Musicians of American National Seminar in Grand Rapids, MI.  Kyle graduated with a degree in music education from Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Indiana ('04). Upon graduation, Kyle taught middle school band and orchestra until entering full-time church music ministry in 2007. In addition to being a conductor, Kyle is an organist, pianist and has experience leading modern worship bands, choirs and orchestras. When Kyle is not working at the church, or on the podium, Kyle enjoys spending time with his three kids (Macaela, Aubrey and Paxton), his friends, and his ADHD cat named Luna Rose. He also enjoys watching a good TV series and occasionally home brewing a batch of beer!   Kimberly Rowe is the Director of Youth & Family Ministries here at Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Her job includes working with children of all ages to ensure they feel comfortable and accepted, while having fun and learning about the Gospel. Kim has worked with young children and youth for most of her life, including volunteering for three years in the youth program, teaching at a daycare facility and working as a nanny. She currently resides in Westland with her husband, child and their sweet pup Lily. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, working out and enjoying the great outdoors. Kim’s previous experience being a youth in the Lutheran church has formed her strong passion to be a part of youth ministry today.   Cindy Channey is the Office Administrator at Holy Cross and is often the first friendly face you see when you walk in the door (and the first voice you hear on the phone!). She makes sure bulletins are ready for worship services, puts the monthly newsletter together, maintains the church calendar, as well directing “traffic” in a very busy building. Growing up in Livonia, Cindy attended Franklin High School and graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science degree and teaching certification for Kindergarten through 8th Grade. Cindy is married to Mike and they have a daughter, Sarah. She is also “dog mom” to Chloe and Charlotte and the most recent addition to the zoo, Eleanor the cat. He is currently studying at Trinity Lutheran Seminary at Capital University in Columbus, OH. Pastor Rick attended University of Michigan with a degree in History (graduating in 2011) and he studied at University of Chicago’s Divinity School (receiving his MDiv. in 2025). Pastor Rick was born in Ann Arbor, MI but has lived all over the country (from Kentucky, Ohio, California, Connecticut, Illinois, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts). He worked at Michigan Medicine and C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor as a Pediatric Chaplain Resident for his Clinical Pastoral Education. He most recently was a Hospice chaplain in Washtenaw, Wayne, and Oakland Counties. Tried following Jesus but got lost? Not sure about this whole God thing? If you have these or any other questions we invite you to bring them to GPS. GPS is the process by which adults who are curious about the Christian faith can explore in a pressure free, open environment.   The ancient church called this catechesis. It is a process without an agenda. It is an open space for you to inhabit. Moving onto the next step, whether that be baptism or affirmation of a previous baptism, is solely the decision of the participant, and their decision, whatever it may be, is honored. Those who are curious are invited to "Come and See" - This first step is all about inquiry, checking out the faith, and asking the question "Where am I in relation to God's story?" **GPS will begin again in Fall of 2022.** Let [Pastor Scott](mailto:pastorscottseeke@holycrosslivonia.org) or the [church office](mailto:office1@holycrosslivonia.org) know if you are interested. Six One Two is our ministry with young people in middle and high school at Holy Cross. It may come as a shock to hear that the first disciples Jesus called were between the ages of 15 and 18. Add to that the story of Timothy, the apostle whom Paul told, "Do not be ashamed of your youth." Jesus recognized the power and passion of young people and invited them to join him and change the world. Youth from 6th grade through 12th are invited to follow Jesus and change the world through 6.1.2, the youth ministry at Holy Cross. Wednesday evenings at 6:12, youth are invited to share a meal, play games and at 7 meet up in the Abbey (our coffeehouse) for a time of "Story Listening" where we engage God's story. Every summer we have opportunities for youth to deepen their faith through mission trips, camp, and wilderness experiences. At Holy Cross, we have four Bible study "circles" that meet monthly on a variety of days. Members tend to join the circle that either suits their schedule best or where they know others. Many women have forged enduring friendships through circle activities. During circle meetings, women share a bible study along with fellowship and refreshments. Each circle has a designated leader who reports to the group on the goals and activities being undertaken by all the Holy Cross Women. The Holy Cross WELCA is governed by a board of officers who are elected for two-year terms. The board meets monthly. We strive to fulfill our mission as defined in the above statement and emphasis on raising up healthy women and girls. The annual spiritual retreats are open to all women at Holy Cross and may be for a day or overnight. Circles have a choice of bible studies available including the excellent studies in the magazine, Lutheran Woman Today. The various circles organize social service projects that may serve the Holy Cross community, people in our local community, in the United States or throughout the world. The most effective project is the Wish Tree at Christmas benefiting families at the Samaritas Family Center, We also make monetary donations to local and national groups as part of our outreach efforts. The two general meeting programs include the annual "Advent by Candlelight" and a spring dinner/program, with election of officers. In addition, other educational programs of interest may be presented. As Women of the ELCA, we all strive to bring new members to circles and other activities as well. All of our activities are open to all the women of the church and their friends. We invite you to join us. It usually takes the form of a circle, repeating sacred geometry and emphasizing the concept of unity. It is used for walking meditation, reflection, and prayer. A labyrinth is not a maze. Rather, it has a single, circuitous path; there are no dead ends or cul de sacs. You cannot get lost if you trust the path.  There is no one right way to use the labyrinth, except to approach it with an open heart, free of expectation, and to surrender to the path that lies before you. Follow it deliberately, all the way in to the center, and back out again. Don’t rush. Plan to spend 20-30 minutes – or more. It may be helpful to think of the path in as an opportunity to release a burden. In the center, open yourself to receive wisdom and guidance. Through God’s word, the waters of baptism, a meal of bread and wine, and prayer, we are nurtured in faith, inspired and equipped to be God’s people doing God’s work. Music is an integral part of worship at Holy Cross.  Seasonal liturgies rooted in the Lutheran worship pattern of “Gathering, Word, Meal, and Sending” for young and old alike, as well as hymns and songs from traditions around the world are led by soloists, ensembles, choir, piano, pipe organ, and many other instruments.  Holy Cross worships on Sunday mornings at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. The 10 a.m. worship is live streamed, [click here](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCIu3y80B0kkR5wZ_Tczg_UA) to watch.  8 a.m. worship is a more intimate worship experience accompanied by organ and piano.  10 a.m. worship is a more festive worship experience featuring a choir. Godly Play is offered during this worship for children age 3 through grade 6. There is a time of Fellowship, with snacks and coffee, after both worships.
