The Knitting and Crocheting Ministry started at Holy Cross in June 2004, led by Pat Ferrari. To date we have given almost 60 shawls, to bring comfort to the distressed. We also do Chemo caps and are now making small baby hats for developing countries, where 4,000,000. babies die in the first month after birth for the lack of something as simple as a small hat. Items may be either knit or crocheted.

We meet the first Monday of the month at 9:30 a.m. and the first Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Library.

Pattern for Knitting a Simple Prayer Shawl

The shawl is simple and easy. If you can cast on, knit and purl - you can do a shawl.

It takes 3 skeins of Lion Brand Homespun. Needle size 10-1/2 or 11.
Cast on 63 stitches. Knit 3, purl 3 to the end. Start the next row. Knit 3 purl 3.
All rows are the same.

Note: Wind off the fringe before you start the last skein. Take a 6 inch piece of cardboard and wind around 63 times. Do this twice, once for each end.
